Sherfield Oaks' new course

Golfer and commentator Ronan Rafferty opens Waterloo course near Reading next week.

Sherfield Oaks' new course

A new 18-hole course at Sherfield Oaks near Reading will be opened next week by former European Tour Order of Merit winner, Ronan Rafferty.

American Golf (UK) Ltd already operates an 18-holer at Sherfield Oaks on the Berkshire-Hampshire border at Sherfield on Loddon but the new Waterloo course will add greatly to the facility.

The course was designed by Simon Gidman on 440 acres and benefits from a host of bunkers and water features. The club has a 9,000 square feet clubhouse with capacity for 150 diners. An upstairs function suite can accommodate a further 80.

Says Mike Clewer, managing director of the owners: "Sherfield Oaks has enjoyed a very successful first year. We have been warmly received and the new course will further widen its appeal as a welcoming and superbly equipped golf venue for the public.

A subsidiary of American Golf Corporation, the largest golf operator in the world with over 260 properties, American Golf (UK) was established in 1993 and has grown dramatically with 24 golf operations, several of which also include additional amenities such as hotels, spas and leisure clubs.
