Motocaddy have long been among our favourite innovators in the golf bags and trolleys space here at GolfMagic, producing sleek, user friendly and genuinely innovative products time after time.

And while it may seem on first glance that electric golf trolleys are much of a muchness, the more you test a trolley like Motocaddy's ME Remote, the more you realise how much certain small innovations can affect your enjoyment and ease of play out on the links.

While the Motocaddy ME Remote tips the monetary scales at just under £1000 at most outlets, its price actually puts it firmly in the entry-level category when it comes to remote golf trolleys.

What you do get, however, is a well-equipped, sleek and easy to set up package that, so long as you don't mind forgoing a GPS, should have all the tech needed to satisfy the highly discerning golfer.

Looks and feel

Much like all of Motocaddy's trolleys, a sleek, modern and distinctly premium feel is what they've gone for with the ME Remote.

The design of the trolley as a whole is lithe and futuristically curved, with sharp five spoke wheels that feature a subtle pop of chrome.

A powdered dark-grey finish across most of the trolley gives the whole package a minimalist air, while the relative lack of dials and buttons on the handles mean that they can be kept narrow.

As such, the entire thing folds up into a deceptively small package when you're not using it.

Features and performance

While the Motocaddy ME Remote certainly doesn't overwhelm you gadgets and buttons on initial glance, it's clear that serious thought has gone into making even this entry-level remote buggy feel like it's worth every bit of the thousand-pound investment.

This starts right at the set-up, as the trolley folds into place in seconds with the mere click of a couple of levers. Add in the time to turn the wheels around from their storage position, and you'll easily be away in under half a minute.

As a straight remote-controlled trolley it performs admirably, offering a great deal of control via a remote that has a 100m range. Automatic downhill control programmed into the trolley is a great addition as well, allowing you to hit even the steepest gradients with confidence. The battery is also ample, with the capacity to traverse up to 36 holes if you're playing on shorter courses.

There are a number of small, thoughtful design decisions that set the ME Remote apart from other trolleys in its price point, however. A removable rear wheel can be clipped into the back giving the trolley extra stability going up hills or when it's being leaned on. Folding the trolley also pops the battery out automatically so it doesn't discharge while you're not using it.

Put simply, this is a trolley engineered to work with you in ways you might not have expected. And while it doesn't have the sheer amount of smart navigation features more expensive remote trolleys do, the ways in which it will make your life easier out on the course are subtle, yet effective.

Should you buy one?

Answering the question of whether or not the Motocaddy ME Remote is right for you boils down simply to exactly what you want out of a modern golf trolley. Its price point puts it squarely in the category of entry-level remote golf trolleys, but also GPS-equipped electric golf trolleys like Motocaddy's M5, while lacking remote control, naturally offer a number of benefits the ME Remote simply can't.

At the same time, those already inclined to spend in excess of a £1000 on a golf trolley might wish to go the whole hog and invest in the Motocaddy M7 model, which provides basically every feature a golfer could ever want.

All this being said, however, we came away convinced that the Motocaddy ME Remote comes away hitting a certain sweet spot that many golfers should come to love. Sleek, nimble and packed with innovative features that make using it an absolute breeze, it should prove more than a worthy investment if a remote trolley is essential to your game.
