Adidas's ZX 8000 Gore-Tex is a winter golf shoe with actual style

Adidas have quietly dropped a winter-ready golf shoe we'd be more than happy to rock all year long.

Even the best winter golf shoes out there are often liable to sacrifice style points in the name of practicality, and understandably so. When you're out playing in the trenches, you tend to be less concerned with how you look and more so keeping dry and comfortable throughout your swing.

An underrated Adidas golf sneaker, however, might just provide the answer. It comes in the form of the recently re-engineered ZX 8000 Golf: a course-ready rework of one of the Three Stripes most popular '80s running shoes.

While Adidas haven't specified that the new ZX 8000 is specifically for winter golf, it forms a pretty beefy and weatherproof package for the weather-conscious golfer. Front and centre of the tech on offer is the Gore-Tex lined upper, which borrows from outdoors gear for the ultimate in water and mud-proofing. It also has a more aggressive spikeless outsole for traction in wet and muddy conditions.

The shoe also borrows the torsion bar system that made the ZX line of running shoes famous during its 1980s heyday: A technology designed to provide lateral support and originally intentioned for pounding the pavement, it doubles well as a stability system out on the links.

Cleverly, Adidas have upgraded the midsole from the '80s-era foam to a more modern running-derived BOOST material, providing soft and springy comfort when walking a full 18, without taking away from the retro stylings of the shoe.

Priced at just £120, they're also refreshingly affordable in the context of the outsized cost of many winter-proofed golf shoes – especially given their additional off-course wearability.
