Bryson DeChambeau could be set for a landmark driver switch ahead of the US Open

Speculation is rife that the American is working with one of golf's biggest names to get a never-before-seen driver in the bag.

We've come to associate Bryson DeChambeau almost solely with niche equipment manufacturers of late, but word has emerged today that the American may well be on the verge of putting one of golf's most desirable mass-market clubs in the bag.

DeChambeau's major struggles have been well-publicised this year, and his mad scientist approach to equipment – which has seen him work almost exclusively with smaller brands like Avoda, LA Golf and Krank in recent years – has been a bone of contention among onlookers as a result.

Now, it appears that he's on the cusp of making another huge change to his bag in an attempt to regain some of his former major-winning form, turning to a TaylorMade driver in a move that would be a seismic coup for the company.

While it's unlikely that DeChambeau, who was last contracted with Cobra in a full-bag equipment deal, will sign on with the brand as a staff player, it looks all but certain that he's set to debut a new driver from the brand at some stage, as two new TaylorMade Qi4D variants have appeared suddenly on the USGA Conforming list this week.

The drivers are simply named the Qi4D Proto 200+ Version 1 and 2, indicating that DeChambeau is planning to put both into play at some stage.

How do we know these drivers are intended for Bryson? One hint is in the uber-low loft, each coming set at just 7 degrees. DeChambeau's current Krank driver is set at a similar spec.

GolfWRX Equipment insider Alistair Cameron also shared a photo of Bryson playing with what looks to be an unspecified TaylorMade driver, heavily implying that these two new drivers are meant for the former US Open winner.

Whether or not DeChambeau takes to Shinnecock Hills with a TaylorMade driver in the bag remains to be seen, but we'll be sure to update you once we have more news.
