Ecco's new high-top boots might be the wildest golf shoes of the year
Arriving on the course from a galaxy far, far away.
It's no secret that ECCO make some of the best golf shoes on the planet. The Danish brand topped our own 2025 shoe test with its stylish and supremely comfortable Biom H5, and continues to make shoes that combine cutting-edge tech with understated Scandi silhouettes.
But while their shoes are typically associated with housing designs that blend in as seamlessly in the clubhouse as they do out on the course, the brand's latest release is a step in an unconventional new direction.
Called the BIOM H5 High Top BOA, the new shoe takes the blueprint of the award-winning H5 shoe and winter proofs it in basically every conceivable way, adding a BOA fastening system and expanding the silhouette to form a high-top boot design. Winter-oriented golf boots are a rapidly growing sector of the shoe market as golfers continue to play deeper into the winter and seek out rounds in more extreme climes.
'The BIOM H5 HIGH TOP BOA builds on the success of the BIOM H5 by delivering even more protection and control for golfers who play through winter,' says ECCO's Timo Vollrath. 'It combines the rugged inspiration of nature with our advanced Danish technologies to create a golf boot that empowers performance in any condition. It’s a shoe made to be used - and made to last.
Much of the design elements remain the same from the original shoe, including the midsole which takes its rugged pattern from the topography of the Scottish highlands. The ECCO Terra Traction System also carries over from the regular shoe, delivering tons of grip and stability without being overbearingly thick or clunky.
ECCO's signature performance leather forms the bulk of the upper, made even more hardy with a waterproof ECCO-TEX membrane. The texture of the leather also varies from the normal shoe, with a stitched mountain top pattern that gives the shoes a quilted, almost otherworldly feel. Beneath that, an internal knit sock liner hugs the foot and moulds to its natural contours for incredible comfort.
