Hideki Matsuyama's Scotty Cameron collection is truly insane
As it turns out, the Hero World Challenge champion is also one of the PGA Tour's great putter collectors.

He doesn't speak at-length about it often, but Hideki Matsuyama is one of the PGA Tour's great low-key gear nerds.
The Japanese superstar has built one of the tour's most eclectic bags over the course of his 15-year professional career, leaning partly on a sponsorship deal with Srixon but also incorporating clubs from the likes of TaylorMade, Cobra and Scotty Cameron to achieve the set-up that works for him.
Matsuyama isn't a player liable to switch out a club in his bag without good reason, having played his Cobra Radspeed 5-wood, for instance, for almost five years. But that's not to say he's not a tinkerer, and one area he's proven a demonstrable willingness to change his load out is in the putter department.
While a staunch Scotty Cameron loyalist, Matsuyama isn't afraid to test out new models from the fabled putter manufacturer in an unending search for the perfect match. In fact, according to one PGA Tour insider, he might have casually amassed one of the most extensive Scotty collections on the planet.
This revalation came from Champions Tour pro and NBC Analyst Brad Faxon, who played a round with Cameron himself and detailed what he learned on Smylie Kaufman's Smylie Show podcast. According to Cameron, Hideki owns close to 400 Scotty Cameron putters.
Can you name a bigger tinkerer than Hideki?!

The legend continues to grow … first the @IHOP story, now one of the most robust putter tinkerer collections in golf 🤯

Faxon reportedly asked Matsuyama this supposed collection, to which the former Masters champ gave a non-committal answer. There's no reason not to believe it, however, especially given it's come from the mouth of the great man himself.
For now, Matsuyama seems to have settled on a certified classic in his choice of Scotty, gaming a Newport 2 Tour Prototype with a highly exclusive GSS face – examples of which now sell for thousands of dollars – having previously used a unique centre-shafted 009 earlier in the year.
Given he's made over $62 million in his career, however, we're safe in saying he can probably wear it.
