When Tiger Woods burst onto the scene in the mid '90s, much of the attention was devoted, quite rightly, to the game-changing levels of precision and power he had in his golf game.

But as he changed the way the game was played on the way to achieving unprecedented dominance on tour, the arguable GOAT also, rather quietly, helped rewrite the rules of on-course style as he did so.

One of the era's most style-conscious golfers, Woods always arrived on course as one of the game's most well turned out players, embracing bold prints, smart tailoring in a way that served as a counterpoint to the stuffy dress codes that defined golf at the time.

Woods would, of course, go on to sign with Nike in late 1996, but even before then he caught eyes for the distinct sense of sartorial flair he matched with his playing style.

The latest collection from Woods' Sun Day Red apparel brand honours this pivotal moment in Tiger's career, throwing it back to the playful, summery style synonymous with golf in the height of major season.

Released to time with the Woods-run Genesis Invitational, which is taking place this weekend, the collection also pays homage to the hues of the California sunrise, honouring the tournament's Riviera Country Club home.

"The First Light Collection is about starting strong," says Caje Moye, Sun Day Red's Senior Director of Product Design. "California is where people come to chase what others call impossible. That mindset shapes this collection. The blues and yellows come from the landscape—Pacific blue, golden hills. We built each piece for performance when it matters."

Tailored with a slightly looser, '90s-style classic fit, the collection draws attention to the prints and silhouettes that defined golf style in the '90s. The centrepiece is Elite Polo, dressed in a custom printed artwork made famous as one of the most famous shirts worn by Tiger in his amateur era and finished with genuine pearl buttons.

Elsewhere striped polos and knitwear are complimented with a collection of lounge and casual wear in beige and khaki, printed headcovers, and accessories dressed in cool hues of blue and cream.
