Wyndham Clark produces putting masterclass to win CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Take a deep dive into Wyndham Clark's winning bag at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he relied on an inspired performance with his PING putter.
Wyndham Clark captured the fourth PGA Tour title of his career with a dazzling final-round performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, but it was his red-hot putting display with a new PING putter that ultimately separated him from the field at TPC Craig Ranch in Texas.
The 2023 U.S. Open champion began Sunday two shots behind South Korea’s Si Woo Kim, yet produced one of the rounds of the season to storm to victory.
Clark mixed nine birdies with an eagle in a sensational 11-under-par 60 to finish at 30-under-par and secure a three-shot win over Kim.
It marked Clark’s first PGA Tour victory since the weather-shortened 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he also closed with a final-round 60 to edge out Ludvig Aberg.
Perhaps most impressively, Clark arrived in Texas without a single top-10 finish on the PGA Tour all season, making his sudden return to winning form even more remarkable.
While Clark’s tee-to-green game was outstanding throughout the week, his putting performance proved to be the defining factor behind the victory.
Clark ranked first in the field for strokes-gained putting at a staggering 12.573 — the best putting week of his PGA Tour career.
He also led the field in putts per green in regulation (1.51), and in Sunday's final round he drained a staggering 157 feet worth of putts.
Clark will now surge back into the world's top 50 when the rankings update on Monday.
A major factor behind his resurgence has been his recent putter switch.
Clark first introduced a PING Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset putter into competition at the Texas Children’s Houston Open two months ago before making another tweak at the RBC Heritage in April, where he moved into a counterbalanced version of the model.
The change appears to have transformed his confidence on the greens.
The Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset features a high-MOI mallet design aimed at improving stability and consistency through impact, while the counterbalanced setup helps quieten the hands and smooth out the stroke tempo under pressure.
Clark looked completely in control with the flatstick throughout the week in Texas, repeatedly holing clutch putts during his final-round charge.
His long game was equally impressive.
Clark ranked sixth in strokes-gained off the tee (4.114), 11th in strokes-gained approach (4.543) and seventh in greens in regulation after finding 79% of greens at TPC Craig Ranch.
He also showcased excellent touch around the greens when required, converting all five of his sand save opportunities and scrambling successfully 87% of the time.
As a free agent in the equipment world, Clark has the freedom to use whichever clubs best suit his game, and his current setup is one of the most intriguing mixed bags on the PGA Tour.
His driver setup is led by a TaylorMade Qi10 10.5-degree driver fitted with a Project X Titan Yellow 60 TX shaft, helping him average more than 308 yards off the tee for the week.
Clark also carries two different fairway woods, including a TaylorMade Qi10 15-degree model and a PING G440 Max 19-degree club, both fitted with Project X Titan Black 80 TX shafts.
His iron setup blends forgiveness and precision. Clark uses Titleist T200 long irons in the 4 and 5 iron before transitioning into Titleist T100 irons from six through nine iron, all paired with True Temper Dynamic Gold X7 shafts.
Around the greens, Clark relies on a four-wedge setup led by Titleist Vokey Design SM11 wedges. His pitching wedge is a 44-degree model, while his scoring wedges come in 50, 54 and 60 degrees.
Clark also trusts the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and uses SuperStroke grips throughout the bag, including a SuperStroke Zenergy 17” 3.0 grip on his counterbalanced putter setup.
