Golf world pays tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Many figures from the golf world have taken the time to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who died on Thursday at the age of 96.
Figures from the world of golf have paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who died aged 96 at Balmoral on September 8.
The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and she was regarded as the greatest serving monarch the world has seen. Her eldest son Charles will become the new King and head of state.
"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family," His Majesty The King said in a statement.
"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

"During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."
As a result of yesterday's events, the BMW PGA Championship was suspended on Thursday evening and there will be no play on Friday at the DP World Tour's flagship event.
The DP World Tour described Queen Elizabeth as "an inspiration to people around the world." Wentworth will lower their flags to half-mast as a sign of respect.

In 1947, I remember being at school when the Queen and her family drove past. I vividly remember seeing her wave at us - she had grace and valor as a young lady, and that remained throughout her tenure as Her Majesty. She was a fine leader and even finer woman.
