Jordan Spieth: "I'm gonna try something stupid"

Spieth is becoming the master of a recovery shot.

Jordan Spieth knows a thing or two about escaping when being out of position, so should we have been in any doubt he would come away unscathed after being stymied by a load of trees at the eighth today? Nope.

Just weeks removed from lifting the Claret Jug in his last start, and THAT escape at Birkdale's 13th, Spieth recovered superbly once again on his penultimate hole of the day in round one of the WGC-Bridgestone.

THE OPEN: JORDAN SPIETH'S CADDIE NOTES ARE A SIGHT TO BEHOLD!

And he even had the audacity to say prior to the shot, "I'm gunna try something stupid here."

Watch Spieth work his magic...

"Just watch." @jordanspieth

Spieth went on to shoot a round of 3-under to sit tied third after 18 holes at Firestone, as the American bids to win his third consecutive tournament and his first ever WGC title.

While we're on the subject of controlling a golf ball, how about this from first-round pacesetter Thomas Pieters at the par-5 16th.

We must have watched this over and over today...
