US Open Golf 2022 LIVE: 2nd Round Scores & Updates, Rory McIlroy in the hunt

Keep up to date with all the latest scores and updates LIVE from the second round of the US Open at Brookline.

Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa raced to the top of the leaderboard on day two of the US Open at Brookline.

Morikawa carded a superb 4-under 66 in the afternoon wave to move to 5-under par for the tournament, a score that has been matched by Joel Dahmen.

Rory McIlroy made one of the best double-bogeys you will ever see on the par-4 3rd and he recovered well to keep himself in the hunt for a first major title in eight years with a 69 to move within just one shot of the lead.

McIlroy is bidding to win his second US Open title having won his first back in 2011 with an eight-shot romp at Congressional.

The Northern Irishman may have just added a 21st PGA Tour title at the weekend but he is winless in the majors since the 2014 US PGA Championship.

No golfer has won the US Open the week after winning on the PGA Tour in the last 60 years, so McIlroy will be looking to set that record straight at Brookline this week.

Defending US Open champion Jon Rahm is also on 4-under par after a solid round of 67, as too are Hayden Buckey and Aaron Wise.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler surged into contention with a round of 67 and the reigning Masters champion finds himself in a great position to attack on the weekend at 3-under par.

Other players in contention include Sam Burns and Matt Fitzpatrick on 2-under par, while two-time US Open champion Brooks Koepka moved up to level par to give himself an outside chance of a third win in the tournament.

Phil Mickelson, who celebrated his 52nd birthday on Thursday, had a two days to forget on 11-over par and he will not be around for the weekend.

Fitzpatrick edges closer to Daffue!

The pin on the 15th hole may be a tight one to attack, but it was no bother for Matt Fitzpatrick.

The Englishman stuck his wedge shot roughly four feet from the pin and rolled in his second birdie of the day in Boston.

He is now 3-under for the week and just three shots behind the leader Daffue on 6-under...

Triple trouble for Simpson!

Well, Webb Simpson couldn't wait to get to the 15th tee box after making an ABSOLUTE HASH of the par-5 14th hole!

The 2012 US Open champion had chipping trouble around the green and this led to a TRIPLE-BOGEY eight.

The 36-year-old has fallen back to 2-over for the tournament...

Bad news for Bryson!

Bryson DeChambeau carded a 1-over 71 in the first round in Brookline, and he is going th wrong way in the second round with a DOUBLE-BOGEY!

DeChambeau met trouble on the par-4 4th hole and he has slumped to a disappointing six, falling to 3-over for the championship.

This could be the cutline come the end of the second round in Boston. Will the former US Open champion make the weekend?

MJ Daffue is on FIRE!

MJ Daffue CHIPS IN for birdie to move three shots clear on 6-under par.

The man from Pretoria has played his first eight holes in 3-under par to open up a bit of a lead in the early stages of round two.

Daffue was ranked outside the top 800 at the start of the year, but since earning his PGA Tour card via the Korn Ferry Tour, he is now up inside the top 300.

Adam Hadwin, the round-one leader, has made an early bogey to fall back to 3-under par.

Viktor Hovland makes his move

Viktor Hovland might be linked with a move away from the PGA Tour to the Saudi-funded LIV Golf circuit, but the Norwegian star is off to the races on day two at the US Open.

Hovland started his round on the 10th and has just made back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th to move to 2-under par for the championship.

Rumours have circled this week that Hovland could be about to join LIV Golf - READ MORE HERE

MJ Daffue hits the front!

South Africa's little-known MJ Daffue has raced into the lead in the early stages of day two.

Daffue, 33, does not even have a Wikipedia page, which gives you some idea as to what he has achieved in the game so far.

However, the World No.296 is 2-under thru 5 holes on day two and up to 5-under par for the championship.

Daffue leads Hadwin by one.

Hadwin is just teeing off his second round now.

JT off to a SHOCKER!

Justin Thomas is off to a shocking start on day two of the US Open by playing his first two holes in 3-over par.

JT, who won the US PGA Championship last month, found trouble with his approach shot on the par-4 10th (his first hole of the day) and he then made a bogey-four at the par-3 11th.

Thomas started the day at 1-under par and he is now back in the pack at 2-over par.
