Michael Block has once again found a way to grab attention before hitting a competitive shot.

The popular American club professional arrived at this week's U.S. Senior Open in Ohio sporting a striking new haircut, with a large "USA" shaved into the back of his head ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Whether fans love his larger-than-life personality or find his antics a little over the top, Block has built a reputation for generating headlines both on and off the golf course.

The 50-year-old, a nine-time Southern California PGA Player of the Year and head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, has enjoyed a busy spell.

He last week made his PGA Tour Champions debut at the Dick's Open, where a triple-bogey at the final hole on Sunday ended his hopes of a higher finish.

Block ended the week in a respectable tie for ninth, five shots behind eventual winner Dicky Pride, who defeated Padraig Harrington in a playoff.

Earlier this season, Block also secured his place in the PGA Championship for a fifth consecutive season.

After opening with an even-par 70 at Aronimink, he produced one of the week's most memorable quotes when describing how he motivates himself during a round.

"I was in the bathroom on hole 12 or 13 today, and there was no mirror, so I wasn't looking at myself. But I said, 'You got this. You're actually pretty good, buddy,'" said Block, who eventually went on to shoot a 75 in the second round to narrowly miss the cut.

Judging by his latest hairstyle, see below, it's fair to say Block is bringing that same confidence to the U.S. Senior Open.

Block became one of golf's biggest stories at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill, where he finished tied 15th, made a memorable hole-in-one while playing alongside Rory McIlroy and recorded the best finish by a club professional at the championship since 1986.

Two years on, he's proving once again that when Block is in the field, there's usually something worth talking about.
