2023 Chevron Championship: Prize purse, winner's share

The winner of the first LPGA Tour major of the 2023 season, the Chevron Championship, will take home $765,000 from the tournament's $5.1 million purse this week. 

The tournament's purse was increased by $100,000 from 2022's $5m, with the winner earning an extra $15,000. 

In addition to first place taking home $765,000, runner-up will earn $481,060, and third place earns $348,975. 

Last year, winner Jennifer Kupcho took home $750,000 after edging out Jessica Korda for her first LPGA Tour major championship victory. 

The former Augusta National Women's Amateur winner defeated Korda by two strokes at 14-under. Kupcho became the final winner to jump into Poppie's Pond as the tournament moved from Mission Hills Country Club to The Club at Carlton Woods in Texas for this year. 

World No. 2 Nelly Korda, who was forced to miss last year's tournament due to rehabbing after surgery, is back in action this week and was one-stroke back after Thursday's first round. 

Leading after 18 holes was Peiyun Chien at 5-under par. Marina Alex, Chella Choi, Lilia Vu, and the younger Korda were all in the group at 4-under par. 

Defending champion Kupcho shot an even-par 72 and was tied for 37th after the first round.
