Golf fans around the world are sparing a thought for one unlucky fella this festive season after his wife has come up with a brutal plan for Christmas Day.

The man in question has reportedly asked for a new TaylorMade driver this Christmas.

It's one of the best golf drivers money can buy and a TaylorMade driver being used by the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

And so far so good, the husband thinks.

That's because there very much appears to be what looks like a golf driver sat under the Christmas tree right now.

In fact the husband has already been picturing that opening tee shot at his home club with his new TaylorMade driver ever since locking eyes on the wrapping paper.

Only his wife has had other ideas.

Who knows what has been going on between them recently, but that's not for us to speculate.

In a post that has been shared by Golf Unplugged on social media, the wife in question has snapped a photo of the present she has wrapped for her husband.

"My husband wanted a new TaylorMade driver for Xmas," she wrote.

"I put this under the tree and he's been looking at it everyday... it's a ball retriever thing and a mug [laughing emoji].

"I CANNOT wait to see his face when he opens on Christmas Day [laughing emoji]."

The mug might be particularly apt here, and while a golf ball retriever does have its uses to save on losing expensive TP5 balls, it's certainly not going to make up for not actually being a new TaylorMade driver.

If the husband in question does see this article before Christmas Day, then at least we may have softened the blow for him.

Either way, there is a strong chance of divorce papers being filed on Boxing Day.

You just don't do this to us golfers.
