New Idea hybrid-iron set from Adams

The combination of irons and hybrids making a set of clubs hasn't quite yet taken off in the UK and Europe the way it has in the United States. But Adams Golf, is confident its latest ‘easy-to-hit’ Idea a12 OS hybrid/iron set will capture the imagination of even more golfers.

The lofted irons in the over-size (OS) set feature deep undercut cavity-backs, thin faces, perimeter weighting and low centres of gravity. The re-designed Transitional hybrids (Nos 7 and 8) use Velocity Slot technology for the first time to produce a spring-like effect across the clubface, improving forgiveness and increasing the launch angle without increasing spin.

“Golf club engineers have long been trying to increase launch angle and ball speed without increasing spin rate but with little success,” says Michael Vrska, director of product development at Adams Golf. “Now the spring-like effect produced across the entire face by the Velocity Slot technology does just that. We’re giving giving golfers increased distance, optimised launch and improved forgiveness.”

The standard men’s and senior sets comprise three hybrids (Nos 4, 5, 6) two Transitional Hybrids (Nos 7, 8) and three deep undercut cavity-back irons (9-iron, PW, GW) with Grafalloy Pro Launch Blue graphite shafts (£699) or True Temper Performance steel shafts (£599) in either right or left-handed options.

Sets can be tailored to a player’s specific needs by adding additional hybrids (2, 3, 7), transitional hybrids (5, 6), or irons (SW, LW) through custom-fit orders.

Adams Golf says it has also developed the Idea a12 OS irons for women, using dedicated tooling and modified specifications to make them better performing for female golfers.

The standard women’s set comprises two hybrids (5, 6), two Transitional Hybrids (7, 8), and three cavity-back irons (9, PW, SW). The women’s set has a sandstone finish complimented by a matching Idea Ultra-Lite High Launch graphite shaft. The price is £625 with similar custom-fit club options.

Adams is also introducing a £199.99 Idea a12 hybrid, developed by Tour pros with VS technology and with more ball speed than the popular Idea a7 model. It will be available in four lofts - 17-degrees (No.2) 19 (3), 22 (4) and 25 (5). In conjunction with UST Mamiya, Adams will be co-launching the ProForce VTS Silver hybrid shaft in A, R, S and X flexes.
