More golf clubs on the market

ST MARGARET'S GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB is one of four golf clubs to have been put up for sale in recent months.

The Dublin-based club, which has a reputable par 73 course, is thought to be worth over £1.6million and its turnover for 2013 is budgeted at around £670,000.

In July, four other golf clubs were put up for sale within a few days of each other, which attracted a lot of interest from business developers to use the land for commercial purposes.

Ian Simpson, a director at Savills, who is handling the sale of St Margaret's, said: “High quality design and construction has allowed St Margaret’s to become one of the best golf courses in the Dublin catchment area, providing an attractive golf landscape which has played host to prestigious events including three international tournaments.

"The property is currently owned by an overseas investment trust who are looking to rationalise their portfolio and we anticipate much interest from both domestic and international investors.”

Another venue in Ireland, Moyvalley Hotel and Golf Course, in County Kildare, has been put on the market at a guide price of £4m.

Sherdons Golf Centre in Gloucestershire is also on the market with a guide price of £750,000, while Weston Turville Golf Club in Buckinghamshire is looking to be sold for around £1.3million.

The new figures are a sign that outside investors are seeing golf clubs as a worthy business venture, while last week it was reported that golf clubs have started to spend on improving club facilities following years of minimal expenditure.
