We pick out our top five golf European courses designed by five-time major winner and European Ryder Cup star Seve Ballesteros

Golf de Pont Royal, France

The setting for this Provençal golf course could hardly be more idyllic - the Durance river snakes its way around the course, and there are beautiful views of the vast valley all around.

The course itself, which opened in 1992, is a par-72 measuring 6,893 yards off the back tees, and is the only Seve-designed course in France.

The terrain is typically Mediterranean, and the course is characterised by its many undulations and hills, and the surrounding forest.

Although the tricky greens are heavily sloped and lightning fast, and the course is set up to encourage and reward imagination and good course craft.

Signature hole: The par-3 11th - elevated tee shot crossing a deep gorge onto a precarious-looking green perched on the other side of the valley.
