Amateur golfer Ryan Werre endured one of the craziest finishes you are likely to see this season.

Werre had managed to cultivate a two-stroke lead heading into the 72nd hole at the Alberta Mid Amateur Championship last Thursday.

He played what can only be described as a risky second shot on the 18th, a par-4, at Highwood Golf & Country Club.

In circumstances all too familiar with us amateur choppers, his golf ball ended up in a pine tree. And it stayed there.

This is where things got really interesting.

Werre was not content to give up without a fight and decided to try and climb the tree in a desperate attempt to try and find his golf ball.

If he could have found his golf ball in the allotted three-minute window, he would have been entitled to lateral relief.

Normal sport.

Unfortunately, he never managed to find it and the lost golf ball penalty meant he tumbled down the leaderboard and out of contention.

In fact, understandably a little bit shaken and perhaps more than a tad annoyed, his next shot found the penalty area and in the end had to write down a nine (!) on his score card.

Werre eventually finished T-4 and it was Jesse Galvon who took the victory by two strokes.

Galvon was behind by three strokes with two holes left and probably was as shocked as anyone else with what he saw.

He told Alberta Golf: "[It was] the craziest finish I've ever seen in person, I don't know if there's a crazier finish that people know of.

"He [Werre] literally climbed a 40-foot tree almost and he's shaking the whole tree ... it was a whirlwind, it was a very interesting last hole."

Man. This game, eh!?
