Did Tiger Woods step in? Charlie Woods tee box CONFUSION explained ahead…

Golf Channel's Todd Lewis has cleared up the confusion surrounding which tee box Charlie Woods will be playing at this weekend's PNC Championship when he joins forces with his father and 15-time major champion Tiger Woods

Charlie, 13, is supposed to be off the forward tees measuring 5,643 yards as they have been set out for the 12-13 age bracket and senior players. These are the same tees that 83-year-old Lee Trevino will be using too, who last night told how he cannot wait to "dominate with the driver"

But yesterday it emerged that because Charlie was such a good golfer he would be put back onto the tees measuring some 6,452 yards. This is the tee box that major champions John Daly, Vijay Singh and Nelly Korda will be using.

It's a tee box that is only one tee box ahead of where the likes of Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas will be playing at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club this weekend. That will play to well over 7,094 yards.

But last night, the championship and rules committee decided to revert back to their original decision, and have Charlie teeing off the forward tees.

After all, he is 13 years old.

It's not his fault he's that good!

Speaking on PGA Tour SiriusXM Radio, Lewis said:

"I reached out to the championship and the rules committee yesterday to find out where Charlie has been playing.

"So the last two years, he's been playing at the most up tee, which is around 5600 yards, but because he's such a good player, you heard what Tiger said about him hitting it by him, the committee decided to move him back not one tee where he is supposed to be in the 12-13 age category, but move him back two tees.

"This was yesterday. He was supposed to be teeing it up at around 6,700 yards (actually 6,452 yards) and playing from the same tees as the likes of John Daly, Vijay Singh and Nelly Korda. He's 13!

"Well, for whatever reason overnight, the committee decided let's put him on the tee that he was supposed to be on. So they've moved him back up a tee.

"They've looked back at the history of the tournament and it makes sense. You can't punish the kid because he's such a good golfer. Charlie is playing the tee he is supposed to be playing, and he's just good."

So why the sudden change of heart?

Did Tiger step in?

Actually, no.

Lewis added:

"I talked to the chief referee, Joe Terry, he's a great guy, and he said he did not have a conversation with Tiger Woods. He said he wasn't even sure he knew where Charlie should be playing. So yeah, no conversation between Tiger and them."
