DP World Tour star Thomas Pieters has tweeted his disappointment at being refused entry into his "favourite tournament" of the season at this week's Genesis Invitational hosted by Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour.

Pieters, 31, is a six-time winner on the DP World Tour but has yet to taste victory on the PGA Tour circuit.

The closest Pieters has come to winning on the PGA Tour was in this very tournament with a tie for second behind Dustin Johnson back in 2017.

Pieters arguably shone the most on the world stage when he was top points scorer taking four points at the 2018 Ryder Cup, a feat that surpassed the previous European Ryder Cup rookie record haul of 3.5 points set by Paul Way (1983), Sergio Garcia (1999) and Paul Lawrie (1999).

But despite now being ranked 34th in the world, something Pieters made a point about in his irate tweet, there was no place for the big-hitting Belgian in this week's 120-man field at famed Riviera.

Pieters tweeted:

"Sad to miss my favourite tournament of the year. Because well as #34 in world, I just couldn't get in."

"Did you p*** off Tiger?" one golf fan replied to Pieters' tweet.

"The LIV door is open," tweeted another fan.

Fellow DP World Tour player Wade Ormsby commented: "That's madness mate!"

Perhaps Pieters' outrageous tantrum when smashing his golf ball with his putter and then booting his golf bag at last year's Genesis Invitational had something to do with his omission this week?!

Watch Pieters' strop at Riv last year here:

While Pieters is a member of the DP World Tour this season like always, he does not currently hold a PGA Tour card.

Pieters' name is also not featured in the 'Players' section on the PGA Tour website.

Although Pieters played in all four majors last season, his last regular PGA Tour appearance came at the 2022 Players Championship (MC). Pieters also played in the Arnold Palmer Invitational (T32) and Genesis Invitational (MC) last year.

The Genesis Invitational, however, as its name suggests, is an "invitational".

To add further confusion to Pieters' exclusion, two-time DP World Tour winner Adrian Meronk, who like Pieters is not a PGA Tour member, did receive an invite into this week's tournament.

Meronk is ranked 52nd in the OWGR, too.

Thoughts?!

Is Pieters unlucky not to be competing in this week's Genesis Invitational, or does he not deserve to be in the field given he's not a PGA Tour member? Share your thoughts over on the GolfMagic social media channels, or come and join us on the GolfMagic YouTube Channel
