England's Matt Wallace gets on birdie train to win first PGA Tour title

England's Matt Wallace landed his maiden PGA Tour title and first title around the world in four years with a narrow one-shot victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic.

Wallace, 32, carded a superb 6-under 66 in the final round highlighted by four birdies in a row from the 13th en route to sealing a one-shot victory over Denmark's Nicolai Hojgaard on 19-under par.

Sam Stevens, who shared the lead with Hojgaard after 54 holes, finished in a share of third place with Tyler Duncan on 17-under par.

Wallace's victory comes just a week after finishing tied seventh at the Valspar Championship, a week that saw him briefly fall out with his caddie

Prior to that, Wallace had missed three of the last four cuts.

Wallace has won four times on the DP World Tour.

His first win came at the 2017 Open de Portugal and he then added victories at the Hero Indian Open, BMW International Open and Made in Denmark in 2018.

Wallace wins the $684,000 winner's share of the $3,800,000 purse at the Corales Puntacana Championship.

The Englishman will now no doubt have one eye on booking a first appearance in the European Ryder Cup team this September.
