Jon Rahm was quick to confirm a crazy story Rickie Fowler revealed after the American flirted with a 59 in round three of the Travelers Championship

Fowler was one of a number of players who almost broke 60 this week at TPC River Highlands.

First Adam Scott had the opportunity but found a watery grave on his second to last hole in round one.

Denny McCarthy followed it up by almost holing out for eagle in what surely would have been the sickest 59 in history.

McCarthy, known as one of the best putters on tour, tapped in for a 60. Fowler posted the same score in round three and without dropping a shot.

Fowler was asked if he had ever shot the illusive number before, of which he confirmed. Turns out, he did so playing in a match against the Spanish World No. 2.

That match was played at Makena Golf & Beach Club and Fowler only ended up beating Rahm by one stoke.

Said Fowler:

"It was a few years back. Rahm and I were playing together. I think I ended up winning the match 1-up. I shot 59, he shot 60. It was a grind."

How crazy is that?! Rahm was quick to confirm that this was true:

Fowler said of his disappointment:

"You know, putting Sunday behind me, obviously bummed, but really just didn't have it on Sunday and really just tried to salvage what I could.
"After then after seeing my daughter and wife coming off the 18th, a lot of that was kind of behind me.
"And then more just looking forward knowing how we've been playing, all the good stuff from last week, and just wanting to continue to go play some good golf and put myself in positions where I have chances to win."
