Tom Kim claimed his second PGA Tour victory at the Shriners Children's Open at TPC Summerlin after disaster struck on the 72nd hole for Patrick Cantlay.

Both Kim and Cantlay were neck-and-neck down the stretch in Las Vegas but at the final hole with their scores tied at 24-under par for the championship, the American pulled his tee shot left into the waste area.

Cantlay, who almost carded a 59 on day three but had to settle for a 60, tried to blast his ball through not one but two hedges. His ball failed to get out and landed in an unplayable lie. From there, his fourth shot found the water.

"I didn't like that play from the start," said CBS lead golf analyst Trevor Immelman on the broadcast. "It's hard to believe watching this."

Kim, who was the bright spark for the International side at the most recent Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club, was caught smiling along with his caddie Joe Skovron - who used to loop for Rickie Fowler - on the fairway as it appeared Patty Ice had just handed him the victory.

The 20-year-old found the green safely and from there navigated two safe putts for par, claiming the win and his second title since winning the Wyndham Championship in August.

He had previously accepted a special temporary membership from the PGA Tour. He was touted as a future player for the LIV Golf Tour.

Kim won $1,440,000 here. He was simply sublime throughout the course of the week, carding rounds of 65, 67, 62 and a closing bogey-free 66.

Cantlay, in the end, had to settle for a triple bogey at No. 18 to card a round of 69. His triple bogey putt was from 35 feet and 9 inches according to Shot Tracker.

It dropped him back into a tie for second with Matthew NeSmith on 21-under. This game.

Kim was asked at the beginning of the week how he has handled being in the spotlight.

He told the media: "I mean, I'm always myself. I don't really - the situation hasn't really changed of who I am a little bit. No, I don't really think it's changed for me.

"I think it's going to be the same way. Tiger has 82 wins on the PGA Tour. Until I get to 83, it's going to be hard for me to think a little different."

Woods had two wins in his first 20 PGA Tour starts at the age of 20.

Kim has two in 18.

Interesting times ahead for Tom Kim.
