Perhaps best known for its groceries, gardening and homeware products, Aldi Stores is branching out into golf fashion.

For a limited period from May 1, its 268 stores in the UK are offering a new range of golf clothing at unbelievable prices.

I have been lucky enough to get a preview of the clothing and it provides outstanding value.

If like me, you prefer to be an early starter on the golf course during the spring and summer, their teflon-coated Windbreakers provide the perfect protection against a chill morning.

Lined and with a micro-fibre fabric to repel wind and showers, they are available with long sleeves or as a sleeveless gilet in black stone or navy (sizes M, L or XL).

I was shocked to discover Aldi Stores will have them in their shops at £7.99 – no that isn’t a misprint! Neither piece has a visible distinctive logo but they look and feel the quality of products priced five times more.

Just as good value is the two-piece weatherproof suit at £12.99 with breathable taped seams. The jacket has two front pockets, elasticated hem with velcro tab and a covered zip.

The trousers have a zip fly and stud fastening, elasticated waistband, two mock pocket entrances for access to pockets in trousers worn underneath and adjustable ankle width. The suit is available in navy or black in M,L or XL.

Aldi will also be offering short-sleeve golf polo shirts in black, navy and stone (M, L, XL) at £7.99 and a twelve pack of recovered lake balls at £4.99.

Verdict

I have worn all three products and still can’t believe the outstanding value. So once you’ve tracked down your nearest store, don’t hang about – the grapevine will make this Aldi range rarer than a golfing albatross.
