THE Garmin Approach S4 has a sleek, futuristic appearance and comes in either white or black.
One major plus is its size and weight when compared with other GPS watches on the market. It’s relatively small and light which means it will not impair your swing like some many of the bulkier alternatives.
It offers over 30,000 international courses at no extra cost and when I scrolled though the Garmin website to try and find a course I played which was left out, I was left red-faced.
The high-resolution touch screen, which can be used when wearing a glove, is easy to use and it’s anti-glare for those rare sunny days out on the course. It’s waterproof up to ten meters – rest assured that will come in handy in the UK all year round.
Yardages to the front, middle and back are given as well as doglegs, hazards and layup areas and all are shown in big, bold font.
Another pro is the Measure Shot Feature which allows you to find a distance anywhere on the course. Gone are the days when you’d say to a partner ‘that must have been a 300 yard drive’.
A key feature is the Dedicated Green View which you can access in just a couple of clicks. This provides golfers with the true shape from wherever you are on the course and you can manually change the position of the flag with ease.
It also allows you to track your score as you go if you don’t fancy carrying round a scorecard and a pencil and you can even print out your final scorecard.
For those of you who can't be separated from your iPhones for the duration of a round, the Approach S4 comes with Bluetooth with connects your iPhone to your watch and it notifies you when you have an incoming call, a text or an email.
With a battery life of ten hours, this GPS watch has everything. Oh, and it tells the time.
The Garmin Approach S4 ticks all the boxes but also does so much more. It’s easy to use and provides all the information you need in a simplistic, effective format. Added features such as Measure Shot Feature and iPhone compatibility makes it stand out from competitors.
