As one of the most forward-thinking names in the grand, often traditionalist world of Swiss luxury watches, TAG Heuer have long been at the forefront of the industry's foray into the smartwatch sector.

The brand's flagship smartwatch, the Connected Calibre, was a first for the industry on many fronts, combining high-end fitness and productivity features with an elevated approach to the watch's construction, re-imagining the smartwatch experience through the lens of a true luxury giant.

Very quickly the company also recognised the potential for the model to appeal to high net-worth golfers as well, releasing the first the golf-centric Connected Calibre Golf Edition back in 2018 and following up in the years since with four consecutive updates.

The fifth-edition of the storied smartwatch dropped earlier this year, debuting an entirely new TAG OS developed in-house by the brand, as well as an array of new fitness features as well as a specialised Golf Edition.

Now, the brand has teamed up with TaylorMade on a special limited-edition collection, combining Swiss craftsmanship with TaylorMade's penchant for cutting edge design. TAG Ambassador and TaylorMade staff player Tommy Fleetwood is the face of the new release.

As with previous TAG Connected releases, the watch exists at the very top end of the golf watch market, retailing at a smidge over £2,100.

The TAG Connected Calibre E5 follows roughly the same formula as previous smartwatches from the house, with a couple of significant internal and external updates.

The watch now uses TAG's own in-house TAG OS software, moving away from a custom build of Google's Wear OS the watch used previously, offering what TAG says a cleaner interface, improved legibility, and faster, more intuitive navigation. Battery performance has also been extended across the range.

Premium materials and luxury finishing are a consistent theme throughout the watch as well, with the Golf edition rendered in a black DLC-coated titanium. A choice of digital faces replicating those of iconic TAG Models like the Carrera and Aquaracer is available to browse on the watch, including special TaylorMade edition-exclusive faces.

Golf-focused complications can also be displayed on the face to keep essential metrics visible at a glance, including longest drive, next golf round, best score, last score, total rounds played during the year, and total birdies made.

A number of small design features have also been introduced that are exclusive to the TaylorMade limited edition. The watch has a special navy blue leather strap, replacing the rubber strap on the standard variant, while the ceramic bezel has been engraved with 18 hole markers as opposed to a watch's standard 12 hours.

TAG have upped the golfing and wellness capabilities of the watch even further for the E5 edition. The brand's golfing software has been reimagined and beefed up to put it in league with other class-leading GPS brands, with full GPS data for over 40,000 courses and hole layouts with auto-zoom that adjust dynamically as the player advances.

This is paired with enhanced auto-scoring functionality that requires no interaction with any other device. Improved shot detection algorithms and GPS convergence data also make the general golfing experience on the watch much faster and smoother.

The watch will be released alongside a couple of special-edition equipment releases on TaylorMade's end. Finished in sleek navy and white, TaylorMade are releasing a special TAG Heuer variant of the Spider 5K ZT Max putter, which it revealed earlier this month. It'll also be joined by a collaborative collection of hats, gloves and accessories.

The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 x TaylorMade will be available from mid-October at a RRP of £2150. You can find out more at Tag Heuer's website.
