Jayden Schaper claimed his second DP World Tour title in as many weeks at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

The 24-year-old South African won last week's Alfred Dunhill Championship in a play-off and needed extra holes to defeat America's Ryan Gerard on Sunday.

Both players finished on a 72-hole total of 22-under par, but it was Shaper who produced the heroics at Heritage La Réserve Golf Links, holing out for eagle on the second extra hole to defeat Gerard.

The consolation for Gerard is that he will finish the year inside the top 50 of the world rankings and has secured a tee time at the 2025 Masters next April.

Schaper said: "The last three weeks have been incredible. I don't even know what to say. That's just such an insane way to finish a tournament.

"It's been such a great week, such an awesome place, the support, the golf course. From start to finish.

"I could not have asked for anything better. Christmas is going to be good this year, and New Year. It's just unreal.

"I wait five years for the first (title) and then the following week (to get the second) is so cool."

Schaper began the final round two shots behind Gerard but raced out of the blocks, picking up strokes on the third and fourth holes before holing a five-foot eagle putt on the fifth to tie the lead.

He made important par saves to keep up the momentum, then put circles on his card at 15, 16 and the 18th to reach 22-under par.

Gerard produced one of the shots of the week at the 18th, getting up-and-down from a tricky spot to extend the contest.

Schaper collected the top prize of €174,065.24 and has a comfortable lead in the Race to Dubai standings.
