Rory McIlroy vowed to try and post a score in the final round of the DP World India Championship to give Tommy Fleetwood and Keita Nakajima "something to think about".
Fleetwood trails Japan's Nakajima by two strokes heading into the final round.
The 34-year-old snatched the 36-hole lead on Friday with a bogey-free 8-under 64.
But Europe's Ryder Cup hero could only manage a 3-under 69 on Saturday as Nakajima tore round Delhi Golf Club with a flawless 65.
Open champions Shane Lowry and Brian Harman are also inside the top-10 with 18 holes remaining. Viktor Hovland also has an outside chance for victory but is five strokes adrift of the lead.
Star attraction McIlroy, who dined with Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar last night whilst wearing his green jacket, moved up the leaderboard once again with a 68.
But the Northern Irishman needs something extremely special if he is to catch Nakajima and Fleetwood.
McIlroy said he is hoping to give the leaders "something to think about".
"I finished the round off pretty well again," McIlroy said. "Made a couple of birdies coming in.
"I felt like I missed a lot of putts today. I gave myself a lot of chances and felt like I squandered a few.
"I should probably be a few shots better than I am, but another solid day and hopefully a low one tomorrow and post a score and at least give the guys up ahead something to think about."

Fleetwood is chasing his eighth DP World Tour title and first since he finally won in the United States in August.
"Final group is always great," Fleetwood told Sky Sports after his round. "You've got to enjoy those moments.
"You don't know when they're going to come again. Looking forward to that. It's been a great tournament. Just hopefully go out and enjoy it and play well."
