Sky Sports Golf commentators Mark Roe and David Howell ruthlessly picked holes in Richie Ramsay's short game during the final round of the KLM Open in the Netherlands.

Ramsay, 41, found himself inside the top five at the time albeit a long way off the leaders as he made his way to the turn.

The four-time DP World Tour winner came up just shy of the front greenside bunker with his approach shot into the par-4 9th.

Ramsay was left with a delicate chip shot off a tight lie and over the bunker.

It was made all the more awkward given the pin was located just 10 feet on the right side of the green.

But Ramsay stepped in and proceeded to flub his chip shot into the sand in front of him.

Despite being a tough shot, commentators and former European Tour players Roe and Howell were in no forgiving mood.

"Ohhh, Richie," said Howell.

"Ohhh, it's a Ramsay special.

"He's prone to this. It's not been his strength over the years."

"Mark?"

Roe, who also works as a short game coach, chimed in: "I don't like the stance. Why, why, why the closed feet, I don't get that?

"He's got to turn his body more, he's got to rotate more.

"It's about, you want one third, two thirds there, not two thirds, one third in the length of the swing.

"It's a shame."

Howell added: "Yeah it is. You know, the game, it doesn't often give everybody every department.

"He's a wonderful ball striker Richie, a great iron player, but sometimes you just struggle with one department of the game whether that be putting or driving or whatever."

Roe said: "As we all know, when confidence goes it's hard to find it again."

Ramsay then got into the sand and splashed out his fourth shot to 10 feet.

Roe was a little more positive of that attempt.

"He's done well there," said Roe.

"He's happy to put speed in there because he's got the comfort of the sand underneath.

"You probably find if you give him a thick lie in the rough he will play it like a bunker shot. He'll have confidence with that as well.

"You see that with a lot of players who don't chip well that the bunker play is never as bad."

Ramsay missed the 10-footer and it all added up to a double-bogey six.

Roe then came back for some more.

"Yeah, chip shot to blame there," said Roe.

"Not one for his career highlights reel."

Some 20 minutes later, eventual KLM Open winner Connor Syme played a beautiful chip shot off a tight lie to a few feet on the 10th.

Roe still had Ramsay's effort on his mind.

"Well if you want to know how Connor's nerve is right now, that tells you exactly how calm is he feeling because that was not easy at all.

"He played it with the most sublime rhythm.

"Just watch how this club flows, and in a way compare that a little bit to the chip shot Richie Ramsay hit on the 9th earlier, and you get the feeling of what it's like to just continue the flow of the clubhead and keep turning your body."

Ramsay went on to card 1-over 72 to finish tied fourth on 3-under par.
