Golfer makes incredible U-turn after discovering he actually made the cut

Jack Floydd was already heading home through the Channel Tunnel after believing his week was over before a late cutline shift sparked a frantic overnight return to France and an eventual top-50 finish.

Most players who miss the cut pack their bags and head home. Jack Floydd did exactly that — only to discover midway through his journey that his tournament wasn't over after all.

The Englishman was forced into an extraordinary overnight dash back to France after a late shift in the cutline at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge handed him an unexpected place in the weekend field.

Floydd had opened with rounds of 70 and 74 to sit at level par after 36 holes in the HotelPlanner Tour event, the lower-tier circuit to the DP World Tour

With the projected cut hovering around level par and one over, he believed his score wouldn't be enough to extend his week.

Acting on that assumption, he checked out of his hotel and set off for England via the Channel Tunnel.

It was only while travelling that the situation dramatically changed.

As more players completed their rounds, the cutline moved in Floydd's favour, confirming he had done enough to secure a place for the weekend.

Unfortunately, by then he was already committed to the train journey.

Speaking after returning to the course, Floydd explained the remarkable sequence of events.

"It's been very eventful. Thought I missed the cut yesterday afternoon. Travelled back to England. Got to the Channel Tunnel and did a U-turn as soon as I got back and straight back to the course.

"I got here about 1am last night and teed it up this morning. Fortunately, the hotel I was staying at and checked out of had rooms available, so I went straight back and checked back in.

"We actually got wedged in on the train when we knew we were going to make the cut. That meant we had to go to England, as we couldn't get out, and when we got off we did a U-turn and back to France."

Despite arriving back at his hotel at around 1am, Floydd still made his 8:29am tee time on Saturday.

The chaotic travel schedule appeared to take its toll early as he slipped to five over through his opening six holes.

However, the Englishman showed impressive resilience, producing three birdies on the back nine to limit the damage and sign for a one-over 73.

Floydd completed his remarkable week in style on Sunday, carding a two-under-par 70 to finish the tournament at one-under par overall and secure a finish just inside the top 50.

The result was a welcome boost for the World No.1,076, who currently sits 137th in the Race to Mallorca standings.

After looking destined for an early exit on Friday afternoon, Floydd instead turned one of the season's strangest cutline twists into a valuable top-50 finish.
