Jesper Svensson claimed his first DP World Tour victory at the Porsche Singapore Classic after beating Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat in a three-hole playoff.

Svensson, 28, carded a course record 9-under 63 in the final round at Laguna National Golf Resort Club, to force a playoff with Aphibarnrat.

The Swede had started the day five shots off the lead but got his final round off to a blistering start with four birdies and an eagle in his first eight holes.

He then continued his fine form on the back nine, managing another eagle and four more birdies down the closing stretch, two of which came on the last two holes.

Aphibarnrat was also in fine form in the final round, making an impressive eagle on the 18th hole of regulation play to shoot an 8-under 64 to force the two-man playoff.

Taking a trip back up the 18th, the pair both birdied the first playoff hole before exchanging pars on the second trip up 18.

Aphibarnrat's approach on the third playoff hole went over the back of the green, forcing a bogey. Svensson was then left with a simple two-putt for par to seal victory.

Last year, Svensson marked his breakthrough by clinching victory at the B-NL Challenge Trophy on the European Challenge Tour, subsequently earning playing privileges on the premier European circuit through the Road to Mallorca rankings.

Since then, he has attained two second-place finishes in the 2024 Race to Dubai, notably at the Investec South African Open Championship and the Bahrain Championship. Remarkably, he now adds a victory to his record in just his 14th appearance on the DP World Tour.

Securing victory has propelled Svensson to the summit of the Asian Swing rankings following just one event and elevated him by eight positions to claim third place on the Race to Dubai rankings.

Svensson said:

"It's been a lot of good golf, so it’s nice to finally come out on top, it's very hard to win. Yeah, it was really nice.
"It's been a long journey. With the win here in my first season out here, I can’t have dreamt of it. It’s always been a dream to be a winner on the DP World Tour and it feels amazing.
"I think combined with the Challenge Tour last year and the beginning of this season, I’ve had five second places for the last year, so I really wanted to come out on top here and it felt great to finally achieve it here.
"It was a couple times today. I told Lucky, my caddy, at 14, we were thinking of laying up and we both said ‘nah we’re not finishing second again this year’ — and it was the best shot of the week, so it was nice."
