Yurav Premlall produced a performance rarely seen in professional golf, drawing immediate comparisons to Tiger Woods as he stormed to a 14-shot victory at the Catalunya Championship on the DP World Tour in Spain.
The 22-year-old South African dismantled the field at Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona, finishing at 28-under-par and leaving runner-up Shaun Norris well adrift in one of the most dominant displays the Tour has ever witnessed.
Premlall’s winning margin is the second-largest in DP World Tour history, behind only Woods’ legendary 15-shot victory at the 2000 U.S. Open.
Though his margin of victory does topple that of his compatriot and hero Ernie Els, who won the 2005 BMW Asian Open by 13 shots.
Tiger Woods (2000 U.S. Open) | 15 shots |
Yurav Premlall (2026 Catalunya Championship) | 14 shots |
Ernie Els (2005 BMW Asian Open) | 13 shots |
The win marks Premlall’s first DP World Tour title and second professional victory, following his earlier success on the Sunshine Tour at the 2024 Vodacom Origins of Golf.
Premlall's rise has been years in the making — he first made headlines at just 15 years old when he became the youngest player to qualify for the South African Open and made the cut.
Over 72 holes, Premlall amassed 33 birdies and twice broke the course record with two stunning rounds of 63 over the weekend, sealing victory in emphatic style.
Reflecting on his breakthrough win, he said: “I have no words. I have worked so hard to get into this position and it’s so rewarding to finally see the results of it. The last eight or nine months have been such a struggle just to build myself onto a platform where I know I can give myself a chance to win and to end up in this position, I’m just so grateful and it’s a dream come true.”
Premlall pocketed the biggest pay cheque of his career to date with €398,262.32.
He also scooped an extra $50,000 for landing the course record at El Prat.
At just 22, Premlall’s Tiger Woods-comparable dominance in Spain suggests a new force may be arriving on the DP World Tour — and doing it in record-breaking fashion.
