Tour pro Yannik Paul clearly wanted to go for this shot during the second round of the Open de España.

The DP World Tour pro wasn't having the best of days when he arrived at the par-4 16th at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

German Paul was a bit wayward off the tee and was level par when this awesome exchange transpired.

The golfer hit his tee shot way right and his golf ball ended up in a dodgy, sandy lie next to the cart path.

There was a small gap but the German needed to hit a banana slice to a back left pin 191 yards away. He said he wanted to get his ball to the front edge.

Hot mics picked up Paul saying how, if he was steep enough, he could trap the ball.

Until his caddie stepped in put his foot down.

"You do have one [a shot]," he explained. "But you're going to have to factor in it's going to hit the bank there which is not really..."

Said Paul: "Hopefully if I get steep enough..."

His caddie interjected: "No."

And then dropped some knowledge bombs:

"What are you trying to do there really? We got so many different variables. You've got sand in front of your ball, you've got sand behind your ball, you've got a small gap in the trees, you've got a fairway bunker here, you've got thick rough there with an overhanging tree. You may as well play out there [and] get it on the fairway where you can at least make a four and take six out of the equation."

On the Sky Sports coverage, the commentators agreed entirely.

"The caddie has just said exactly what I was going to say. He just perfectly summarised this shot," an announcer said.

In the end Paul listened, chipped out and made a bogey en route to a second round of 73.

Watch the moment here:

Paul is not going to win this week as he was well behind the lead after making the cut.

Who knows, though, that sensible shot could've earned him some extra cash come Sunday.
