Former PGA Tour player turned analyst Brandel Chamblee has shed new light on Bryson DeChambeau's pace-of-play issues at the final men's major of the year .

DeChambeau hit the headlines during The Open at Royal Portrush when it emerged the golfer's group were put on the clock during the third round.

The two-time major winner and his playing partner, England's Nathan Kimsey, were told they were being timed by tournament officials before they struck their tee shots on the 17th hole.

For his part, DeChambeau responded by saying he was playing as quickly as he could but their pace was slowed by how tricky the greens were.

DeChambeau, who was accused of playing far too slowly during his PGA Tour days, even outlined a solution to the problem after he finished his round.

Chamblee, no stranger to criticising LIV and even DeChambeau, has offered fresh insight into what transpired on the Dunluce Links two weeks ago.

Chamblee told his podcast that whilst DeChambeau appeared magnanimous to the media over what transpired on the course, during the moment he got 'quite cantankerous'.

"He took strong exception to it," Chamblee said. "Got right in the face of the R&A guy.

"So he can be quite cantankerous. He's got a little Eddie Haskell in him. He turns it on when the camera comes on and wants to look like he's doing the right thing, pretend like he is doing the right thing, but out there it's very much a me, me, me environment."

DeChambeau fired an opening round of 78 in Northern Ireland but responded with three rounds in the 60s to post a top-10 finish at The Open.

US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley confirmed DeChambeau will absolutely be part of his plans when the biennial contest heads to Bethpage Black this September.

World No.1 and champion golfer of the year Scottie Scheffler is the only player to have automatically qualified for the US team.

Chamblee reckons the Ryder Cup will be buoyed by DeChambeau's presence.

โ€œHeโ€™s one hell of a player and hits it nine miles and does all these amazing things, so heโ€™ll put on a great performance at the Ryder Cup and the fans will love it," Chamblee said.

"So I think the Ryder Cup is going to be heightened by his being there."

What is Bryson DeChambeau's solution to slow play?

DeChambeau's solution to one of golf's biggest problems is remarkably simple.

The 31-year-old said players should be timed individually from the moment they set their bag down to when they hit their golf ball

He believes this method would be fairer to all players.

But he added: "Nobody wants to do it because people are too scared to get exposed, which I am an advocate for. I'd love to be timed, and I have no problem with that.

"My putting, I'm more deliberate, take more time on that, but when it comes to iron shots, off the tee, I'm pretty fast."
