Former LIV Golf member opens up on prospect of earning PGA Tour card
Former LIV Golf player Laurie Canter has opened up on the prospect of becoming the first player affiliated with the breakaway to earn a PGA Tour card.
Laurie Canter has opened up on the proposition of becoming the first ex-LIV Golf pro to secure duel membership on the PGA Tour.
Canter will head to the DP World Tour's play-offs in two weeks' time in a strong position to earn his playing rights in the United States after a good display in South Korea.
The Englishman secured a runner-up finish at the Genesis Championship courtesy of a remarkable 100-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole.
It saw Canter climb five places in the Race to Dubai standings and bolstered his position among the top-10 players attempting to earn PGA Tour cards.
The 35-year-old is currently in possession of the sixth card.
He looked extremely likely to earn duel membership after making a blistering start to the season that saw him win in Bahrain and just miss out on more silverware in South Africa.
His early season form saw him qualify for the PGA Tour's coveted Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in March by virtue of his world ranking.

Canter was only able to tee it up as his 12-month suspension expired.
At the time, he became the first former LIV player to compete in a PGA Tour event that wasn't co-sanctioned since the schism in men's golf began in 2022.
He played in 20 LIV Golf events between 2022-2024.
But since March, Canter has struggled somewhat.
He told Sky Sports Golf after the Genesis Championship that the last six months have been a real struggle.

"We play such a frustrating game and I feel like at the beginning of the year I felt like I had a lot of momentum and had it on a piece of string and [since] then it has been hard work," he said.
"I have felt like I am paddling upstream for six to eight months. I fell out of the PGA Tour card race this week so that was on my mind.
"I wanted to go to the play-offs and feel like I am not playing with a gun to my head totally, I can go out and embrace the chance to go and get one of those cards."
Canter has two events remaining to secure his PGA Tour card.
As things stand, Marco Penge, Kristoffer Reitan, Adrien Saddier, John Parry, Alex Noren, Haotong Li, Daniel Brown, Keita Nakajima and Jordan Smith are inside the number.
