Jon Rahm looked like he "wanted it all to be over" at LIV Golf UK

Jon Rahm's body language at LIV Golf UK suggested the Spaniard was extremely unhappy and had the look of a man that "wanted it all to be over", according to witnesses.

The breakaway tour is reeling from the withdrawal of Saudi Arabian financial backing and it remains to be seen whether it will continue beyond the end of the season. 

LIV requires some $300m from new investors to remain operational in 2027 and it's understood a firm deadline of 1 September has been set to secure the funding.

Rahm had the opportunity in Staffordshire last week to capture his third straight individual title but had a rare off-week, finishing in a tie for 23rd and 26 shots behind champion Lucas Herbert. 

According to GolfBettingClub, there were two notable incidents that suggested Rahm was an unhappy man. 

Ahead of the third round, LIV Golf's embattled chief executive, Scott O'Neil, visited players on the range before the shotgun start. 

A smiling O'Neil was seen chatting with players and exchanging fist bumps on the practice range, but Rahm was reportedly the only player who failed to acknowledge the former NFL executive.

Rahm was also observed after the first round "slumped on a buggy all by himself for over 30 mins". 

"He played poorly in round one but his body language and way he interacted with O'Neill suggests he's a man who wants this all to be over," GolfBettingClub posted. 

What has Jon Rahm actually said about his future?

Rahm was quizzed about his and LIV's future during his pre-tournament news conference at JCB. 

The two-time major champion said he was "optimistic" about LIV's chances of survival. 

"I'm always optimistic," he said. "I play a game for a living. I can’t really be too upset about how things are going in life. 

"Even though I’m very frustrated on the course very often, off the course I’m very different to what a lot of people think."

Asked whether he would be a LIV Golf player in 2027, Rahm said: "I'm not going to share anything that I can’t share with you guys right now."

"Never say never"

Rahm has always made it clear that he has never regretted his decision leave the PGA Tour. 

In May, Rahm said he never joined LIV hoping his move would be the catalyst to end the disruption in the men's game.

"Now, I would also say I've made a lot of decisions in my life, and I've never gone back thinking, Oh, had I known this again, I would do X and Y different," he said. 

"I could do that about 15 different golf shots on the golf course every single day. If I lived my life like that as a golfer, I would be a very pessimistic person."

And last month, he didn't rule out investing his own money into LIV Golf 2.0. 

“I know Scott is doing a lot of work trying to find developers, and there’s many ways around that," Rahm said. 

"As far as putting my money into it, they have not asked me to do that yet. 

"So, I don’t know if they will or not. 

"It’s not something that they have asked me, but there have been many different avenues to try to make it different, what we’ve had till now. 

"They haven’t asked me to put my money in yet."

Pressed on whether he would, he added: "I'm not going to say absolutely no to anything that can happen in the future."

Jon Rahm's messy contract situation

Rahm is said to have penned a contract worth $300m (£222m) that will take him through to 2029. 

However, there has been speculation as to whether it would be null and void should LIV trim their schedule and dramatically reduce prize purses. 

Skratch previously quoted a LIV agent describing Rahm's current situation as a "total clusterf---". 

"The contract we signed calls for 14 tournaments with purses of at least $25m," the agent said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. 

"If they put together a smaller schedule for less money, which is obviously the only path forward, the contract we signed is voided. 

"At least, that’s how we see it. If they disagree, the lawyers are going to have to sort it out.”
