Jon Rahm admitted being crowned LIV Golf's individual champion for the second consecutive year was 'bittersweet' after he was defeated by Sebastian Munoz in a play-off.
The Spaniard shot an 11-under 60 at The Club at Chatham Hills on Sunday to finish on 22-under par alongside Munoz.
Rahm could only make par on the first extra hole while the Columbian held his nerve from inside 10 feet, rolling home a birdie putt to claim his first win on the circuit since leaving the PGA Tour.
The result was good enough for Rahm to pip Chile's Joaquin Niemann to the individual title and the $18m top prize, despite the fact he has not won at all this season on LIV.
Niemann, 26, has picked up five victories since February but was pipped to the title by three points.
"It's kind of hard to swallow," Niemann told reporters.
Rahm said: "[It feels] slightly bittersweet. Like I know I'm supposed to be happy. It's a great moment. But it just doesn't feel great to finish the year losing two play-offs.
"Have a great Sunday today and then hit the pin and unfortunate moment on the playoff hole.
"That part doesn't feel great, so I'm sure over time I'll get over that, and I really appreciate what I've done this year. To be able to win the season without actually winning a tournament, I know eventually I'll be proud of that.
"Right now it's slightly more something I'm going to suffer over a little bit more, and it may never be replicated.
"You need a lot of coincidences to go on exactly with the year Joaquín had. He's won five times; he's played incredible golf. One could argue he was probably the more deserving guy to win this.
"But we have the points system that we have, and somehow, I don't know how, I managed to pull through and get it done."
Rahm will turn now turn his attention to the season-ending team finals in Michigan.
His LegionXIII quartet are favourites to win, followed by Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers.
After that, Rahm will be hopeful that he has done enough to warrant inclusion in the 2025 European Ryder Cup team.
Rahm has no chance of qualifying automatically, so will be reliant on a captain's pick from Luke Donald.
The golfer was instrumental in Europe's win in Italy two years ago and it seems unfathomable that he won't be involved.
The same can be said for his Legion teammate Tyrrell Hatton.
