LIV Golf chief executive Greg Norman says Talor Gooch is the best iron player he has witnessed over the last 20 years.

Norman made the claim as he joined the broadcast during LIV Golf Miami

The tournament was won by Dean Burmester and Gooch finished five strokes behind the South African.

Gooch was the breakaway tour's individual champion in 2023 after he won three times.

This year is a different story for Gooch though as his best finish so far saw him tie for second in Las Vegas

Gooch has now slipped outside major contention owing to his world ranking status.

Despite not being eligible for the majors, Norman still believes he is one of the very best he has ever seen.

"Talor Gooch is the best iron player in the game of golf in the past 20 years that I've personally witnessed," he said.

"I've just loved watching him. His iron play is so precise."

That's quite the claim from the 69-year-old Australian, who has played with some of the game's greatest players.

For example, the two-time Open champion's biggest rival was Sir Nick Faldo

Norman has also shared fairways with Tiger Woods and many, many more multiple major champions.

This contention was picked up by golf fans on X, who battered Norman for the proclomation.

"Everybody knows Tiger is the best in history," one said. Another added: "He must’ve never witnessed Tiger play golf."

This user twisted the knife on Norman: "Such a horrible, horrible take."

Even looking at the LIV stats, Norman's claim doesn't pass the smell test.

Veteran Englishman Paul Casey led the league in greens hit in regulation at 77 per cent before LIV Golf Miami.

Gooch was ranked 17th, with the likes of Joaquin Niemann, Jon Rahm, Branden Grace, Bryson DeChambeau, Richard Bland, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Sebastian Munoz, Abraham Ancer, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Carlos Ortiz, Jason Kokrak and the aforementioned Burmester more accurate with their irons.
