LIV pro gives verdict on fellow golfer's divorce: "I wouldn't have handled it that way"
Harold Varner was full of praise for his teammate, Pat Perez, who separated from his wife Ashley after nine years of marriage earlier in the year.
Harold Varner III was full of praise for his LIV Golf teammate Pat Perez for taking some personal issues in his stride ahead of a crucial 18 holes in Chicago.
Perez and Varner head into the final round at Bolingbrook Golf Club both facing the prospect of relegation from the Saudi-backed league.
The 4 Aces teammates have performed extremely poorly on the course during the breakaway's third campaign and are 47th and 48th in the standings respectively.
Both golfers have been involved in incidents over the last year that may have contributed to their poor form.
Last December, Varner was arrested for driving while impaired.
Conty records showed his blood alcohol content was 0.16%, twice the legal limit.
"I just haven't hit it well," Varner told reporters when he was asked about the dip in his form.
"There's some other things going on. [It is just] life, everyone is going through it.
"I just get to chase a white golf ball around while I do it, and when you play bad everyone freaks out. It's not the end of the world. I'm not saving the world.
"I really relish this moment. I think this isn't too much of a big deal."
A month prior to Varner's arrest, Perez and his former wife Ashley filed for divorce after nine years of marriage.
No Laying Up claimed before the divorce papers were lodged Perez came back from a Las Vegas trip only to find a pair of forks left in the marital home.
Ashley labelled her ex a 'narcissist' in a series of Instagram posts.
"You really find out who people are when they're playing bad," Varner added of Perez.
Varner said he had taken the time to get to know Perez 'a lot better this year'.
He added: "The stuff he's going through in life, it matters way more than anything that ever happens in golf.
"I'm super appreciative to be next to him, how he's handled it.
"I would have not handled it that way, so I'm obviously super proud of him."
