LIV Golf will reportedly hold qualifiers for their regular-season events, according to a report.

The PIF-backed breakaway stunned the world of men's professional golf on 4 November by announcing they were abandoning one of their founding principles.

From 2026, LIV Golf events will be extended to 72 holes, putting them in line with the sport's established tours.

The circuit was launched in 2022 with 54-hole events and even takes its name from the Roman numeral for 54 - LIV.

Two-time major champion Jon Rahm, who joined LIV in December 2023, and US golfer Bryson DeChambeau were among those to hail the seismic change.

Others, such as Rory McIlroy, found the switch perplexing

Now, there is reportedly another big one on the horizon.

FlushingIt has reported the size of the fields in the regular-season events will be increased to 57 to accommodate five wildcards.

The account also stated there is the potential event to event qualifier in 2026.

Should that happen, then it would further appease the sport's global rankings body.

LIV have been trying to get coveted Official World Golf Ranking points since July 2022.

The league was rejected two years ago, decided not to pursue the matter and then changed course again when Scott O'Neil replaced Greg Norman as the league's chief executive.

The OWGR has laid out some, but not all, of the parameters LIV need to achieve accreditation.

Former OWGR chairman, Peter Dawson, stated before he retired that 54 holes was not a deal-breaker.

In a recent interview, Dawson expressed regret that the LIV issue was never sorted whilst he was at the helm.

Dawson's successor is former Masters champion Trevor Immelman.

Immelman has said he has held positive talks with the aforementioned by O'Neil but remain tight-lipped over when LIV's latest application will be approved or denied.

The OWGR is understood to have had an issue with the lack of meritocracy in LIV Golf.

Former PGA Tour star Anthony Kim joined LIV Golf in 2024 as a wildcard, signing a two-year contract, and  - like the team captains - was exempt from relegation.

LIV have now removed this rule and Kim, who finished in relegation zone this season, is facing an uncertain future.

There was speculation that he would retire but the golfer has clarified he has no plans to walk away from the sport anytime soon.

In fact, he is enjoying the sport than he has ever done

Kim told reporters last week that he will play the International Series in 2026.

He will also try and earn his space back on LIV via their Promotions event next January.

Former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has made no secret of his disdain for LIV Golf over the past few years.

As a strategic advisor to Ryder Cup Europe and former member of the DP World Tour's board, it is clear where his allegiances lie.

But he recently praised LIV recruit Tom McKibbin after his victory at the Hong Kong Open.

McKibbin was advised by his mentor Rory McIlroy not to join LIV in 2024.

But he has now earned spots in two major championships in 2025 - at The Open and Masters - courtesy of his victory in Fanling.

McGinley told bunkered that he actually believes switching to LIV has benefited McKibbin's career.
