Sergio Garcia explains why golf must expand beyond its traditional markets
The LIV Golf star says the Asian Tour's International Series is helping develop future talent while bringing elite golf to regions that rarely get the chance to host the game's biggest names.

Sergio Garcia believes The International Series is playing an increasingly important role in developing golf's next generation while helping grow the game in emerging markets around the world.
The Fireballs GC captain is set to make his seventh appearance on The International Series at this week's International Series Morocco presented by Visit Morocco, where he joins a strong field that includes 18 LIV Golf players and fellow team captain Bubba Watson.
Garcia arrives at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in encouraging form after finishing runner-up at LIV Golf Virginia in May and claiming fourth place at LIV Golf Andalucía last week.
The 2017 Masters champion has also enjoyed success on The International Series, including a fourth-place finish at International Series Macau presented by Wynn in 2025.
This week's tournament also marks Garcia's first visit to Morocco.
"Yeah, it’s always fun, like Bubba mentioned, coming to a new place," said Garcia, the all-time Ryder Cup points scorer.
"Funny enough, even though I’m from Spain, I’ve never been to Morocco, as close as it is."
Garcia will have a familiar face on the bag this week, with his wife Angela taking on caddie duties.
"It’s great to be here with my wife, Angela. She’s going to be caddying for me this week, so that’s going to be a fun experience for both of us," he said.
"We played nine holes yesterday and enjoyed the course. It’s in great shape. The greens are very tricky with a lot of movement on them, but it’s a beautiful-looking golf course. We’re excited to see a new culture and experience it."
Beyond his own ambitions in Morocco, Garcia believes The International Series is proving to be a valuable pathway for emerging talent. He pointed to the progress of Fireballs GC teammate Josele Ballester, who secured his maiden professional victory at last year's PIF Saudi International before recording a tied-third finish at the Singapore Open earlier this season.
"Without a doubt," Garcia said when asked whether The International Series serves as an effective development platform.
"And for us too, to keep sharp and play against some really good players and really good up-and-coming players. It’s fun to be here and test our games a little bit, maybe try a few new things here and there."

Garcia also highlighted the importance of taking elite golf to new regions, something he believes is central to both LIV Golf's vision and The International Series schedule.
"I think golf is a global game, and that’s where we try to take it," he said.
"One of the key things we do at LIV is travel to many different parts of the world and give countries that don’t always get to see a lot of golf, or many big-name players, the opportunity to experience it."
"I think it’s important to try to be in as many places as possible. Morocco, the Middle East and Asia are big markets, and we’re happy to try to do our part there."
