The first pairings of the 2026 Solheim Cup will be revealed on Thursday evening, with European captain Anna Nordqvist and her United States counterpart Angela Stanford set to announce their Friday morning foursomes teams during the opening ceremony at Bernardus Golf.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at around 4pm BST (5pm local time), with the four opening matches expected to provide the first major insight into how both captains intend to approach the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup.

The opening session on Friday 11 September will feature four foursomes matches, with each team pairing two players who alternate shots using the same golf ball.

The first foursomes match tees off at 6:40 am BST (7:40 am local time), with live broadcast coverage starting at 6:00 am BST.

The foursomes format makes the opening pairings particularly intriguing.

Unlike four-ball, where both players hit their own ball and the better score counts, foursomes places a greater emphasis on partnership, strategy and consistency.

Players must adapt to playing alternate shots, meaning captains need to carefully consider combinations that complement one another both on and off the course.

The four foursomes matches will get the contest underway before four four-ball matches are played on Friday afternoon.

The same schedule will be repeated on Saturday, while Sunday will see all 12 players from each team compete in singles.

There are 28 points available across the three days, with each match worth one point. Europe need 14.5 points to reclaim the trophy outright, although a 14-14 tie would see the United States retain the Solheim Cup as defending champions.

USA arrive as defending champions

Team USA head to the Netherlands looking to retain the trophy after defeating Europe 15.5-12.5 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia in 2024.

The Americans also hold an 11-8 advantage in the overall Solheim Cup series, while Europe are still waiting for their first outright victory since their memorable 15-13 success at Inverness Club in 2021.

Europe subsequently retained the trophy after a dramatic 14-14 draw (the only ever tie in Solheim Cup history) at Finca Cortesin in Spain in 2023, before the United States regained it on home soil a year later.

Now, Nordqvist has the opportunity to lead Europe back to victory on home soil.

The three-time major champion made nine Solheim Cup appearances as a player and will now go head-to-head with Stanford, herself a six-time Solheim Cup player, in their first contest as captains.
