Just months before LIV Golf arrives in Africa for the very first time, Stinger GC has officially changed its name to Southern Guards GC, signalling what the league describes as the start of a powerful new era for the South African side.

The update comes 24 hours after a whirlwind period in the pro game, with Brooks Koepka making a sensational return to the PGA Tour just weeks after the former Smash GC captain quit the LIV Golf League

The Southern Guards GC rebrand comes as excitement continues to build for the 2026 LIV Golf League season, with South Africa set to host its debut LIV Golf event at Steyn City in Johannesburg next March.

At the centre of Southern Guards GC’s new look is a strong sense of culture, unity and resilience, drawing inspiration from the African philosophy of Ubuntu – “I am because we are”.

A striking new symbol also leads the refreshed branding – the rhino.

Deeply rooted in South African culture, the animal represents strength, toughness and determination, while also nodding to legacy and protection. The design itself leans heavily into South African textures and patterns, reinforcing the idea of a team that competes fiercely while carrying the flag on a global stage.

The timing of the rebrand is no coincidence. LIV Golf South Africa will take place at Steyn City from 19–22 March 2026, and interest is already sky-high, with more than 70,000 tickets sold well in advance of the event.

Richard Glover, General Manager of Southern Guards GC, said:

"This has been an emotional and considered decision, but we felt the time was right to embrace a name and visual identity that more authentically reflects who we are and where we come from. Southern Guards GC reflects the responsibility we carry in representing South Africa on a global stage. With LIV Golf coming to the country for the first time, the timing couldn’t be more fitting for us to represent our heritage with pride.”

Despite the new name and look, one thing remains unchanged – the players. Southern Guards GC will head into the 2026 season with the same all-South African lineup that fans have come to know and associate with the team.

Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace, Dean Burmester and Charl Schwartzel will once again fly the flag, with four of South Africa’s most decorated golfers now united under a refreshed banner for what promises to be a historic season.

The team name change is not the only one on LIV Golf entering 2026, as Iron Heads GC have rebranded to Korean Golf Club.

A number of teams have also changed their team logos.
