Talor Gooch has confirmed discussions will be held over whether to alter LIV Golf's format.

The Saudi-backed rival league has played 54-hole events since its inception in June 2022.

One of the reasons why the breakaway tour is called LIV is because it translates to 54 in Roman numerals.

The format has, among many other factors, proved a stumbling block in LIV gaining accreditation for world ranking points.

Before Jon Rahm agreed his gargantuan deal, it was suggested the Spaniard was trying to persuade LIV chiefs to make some changes.

Rahm said he was hopeful the tour's leaders will listen to 'some of my advice' about the format before LIV embarks on their third campaign.

Gooch, who was LIV's 2023 individual champion, was understandably elated to hear Rahm has penned a multi-year deal with LIV.

The American told Golf Digest's Evin Priest there hasn't been an 'open forum discussion' about the format yet. But that will change.

"You get both sides," he said, explaining he was one of the players who would prefer the format remaining the same.

"Guys who would welcome it [72 holes] and some guys who are opposed to it. Discussions will be had, and it'll be interesting to see what comes of it."

He added: "I think LIV Golf was meant to be something different; I think it's not supposed to be a carbon copy of the rest of professional golf. I lean towards keeping it at 54 holes,

"Part of it too, from my experience on the PGA Tour, was Thursdays are just irrelevant from a fan perspective [except for] only a couple times a year.

"I've always been an advocate of … I think the majors absolutely should be four rounds, but I don't necessarily think everything else should be four rounds, almost similar to tennis.

"We want to do everything we can to make the most entertaining product but [also] the product that's going to reveal the best golfer."
