Ladies European Tour makes key announcement ahead of AIG Women's Open

The Ladies European Tour (LET) has reaffirmed its commitment to The R&A Women in Golf Charter ahead of this week's AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, underlining its ambition to create a more inclusive future for golf and expand opportunities for women across the sport.

The announcement comes as the AIG Women's Open celebrates its 50th edition, marking a major milestone in women's golf and highlighting the continued growth of the professional game.

Having first become a signatory to the Charter when it launched in 2018, the LET says its renewed commitment will build on existing progress while creating new pathways for women and girls, both on and off the course.

LET Chief Executive Officer Tom Phillips said the Tour remains committed to ensuring women can thrive in every area of the game.

"The LET is a truly global tour, showcasing world-class athletes at some of the most iconic venues in golf," Phillips said.

"As an organisation, we are committed to fostering an environment where women can thrive, whether as players, officials, practitioners, administrators or leaders within our sport.

"Our members are not only exceptional golfers but ambassadors who inspire women and girls around the world to play the game and pursue their ambitions. Renewing our commitment reflects the belief that golf should be welcoming, accessible and full of opportunity for everyone."

As part of its renewed pledge, the LET will place greater emphasis on creating career opportunities throughout the organisation. 

A key focus will be the continued development of the LET Performance Institute (LETPI), supported by The R&A Foundation through funding generated by The Open and philanthropic donations.

The LETPI provides world-class support to Tour members through a network of leading female experts in elite sport. 

Looking ahead, it will also expand fellowship and mentoring opportunities to help develop the next generation of female practitioners, giving aspiring professionals the experience and networks needed to succeed at the highest level.

The Tour is also developing initiatives designed to introduce young women to the wide range of careers available within golf, offering greater insight into opportunities across the industry through engagement with LET players, staff and professionals.

Jackie Davidson, Director of Golf Education at The R&A, welcomed the renewed commitment.

"As we celebrate 50 years of the AIG Women's Open, we are reflecting on the progress that has been made while looking ahead to the future of women's sport," Davidson said.

"We are delighted that the LET has renewed its commitment to The R&A Women in Golf Charter. Through its influence and global platform, the Tour is uniquely positioned to inspire greater participation among women and girls while supporting the recruitment, retention and progression of women working throughout the golf industry."
