The big names in danger of missing PGA Tour's play-offs

The PGA Tour will soon turn its attention to the season-ending play-offs. 

Only the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings at the conclusion of next week's Wyndham Championship will advance to the first of the three postseason events.

The FedEx St. Jude Championship will be played over 13-16 August, with the field trimmed down to 50 for the BMW Championship the following week. 

The $40m season-finale, the Tour Championship, will once again be staged at East Lake. 

As things stand with two regular-season events remaining, some big names are in danger of missing out. 

Chief among them is Brooks Koepka, who withdrew from the Rocket Classic in Detroit due to personal reasons. 

Koepka's decision to withdraw means that he needs a good result at the Wyndham Championship if he is to have any hopes of advancing to the play-offs. 

GolfMagic has decided to take a look at some other big names who need to finish their season strongly. 

Jason Day

FedEx Cup standing: 74

The former world number one has been struggling physically and mentally this season. 

In June, the Australian said his average results have "nothing to do with the clubs". 

"I'm playing to miss a shot instead of playing to a target, just because I don't know what the ball's going to really do once it comes off the club face," he said. 

He added: "I think at some point I'll get beyond it. 

"It's really hard to be patient right now because every tournament I typically have three decent rounds and one bad round that just puts me out of the tournament. "

Day has also been struggling with a back injury since the U.S. Open. Like Koepka, he withdrew from the Rocket Classic.

Keegan Bradley

FedEx Cup standing: 76

The former U.S. Ryder Cup captain has been candid over how the defeat at Bethpage Black has affected him. 

The American has only missed four cuts this season but is yet to post a top-10 finish on the PGA Tour. 

Bradley will also be aware that he has qualified for the last three editions of the Tour Championship and will want to keep the streak going.

Tony Finau

FedEx Cup standing: 87

Tony Finau's slide over the past 18 months has been alarming. 

Now outside the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking, Finau didn't qualify for a single major in 2026.

Jackson Koivun

FedEx Cup standing: 70

The PGA Tour's newest star, Jackson Koivun, is directly on the bubble. 

Given that he won the 3M Open last Sunday on only his third start as a professional, you'd back the 21-year-old to finish the season strong and book his spot in the play-offs. 

Koivun may even do enough to secure a call-up to the U.S. Presidents Cup squad.
