Nick Dunlap's caddie Hunter Hamrick uttered a hilarious one-liner to the amateur as he was lining up his six-foot par putt for the win at The American Express.

Hamrick and Dunlap lined up the putt from all angles before Hamrick concluded it was a simple left-centre putt.

He also had one last crucial piece of advice.

"Nick, your Mum could hole this."

Dunlap, 20, took the instruction on board and then drained the putt right in the heart of the cup to claim one of the most incredible victories in PGA Tour history.

After the round, Dunlap elaborated on what was going through his head as he lined up his victory putt on 18.

"Outside of the circumstances, it was the easiest putt ever," said Dunlap.

"Left centre, just hit it solid. But you just can't feel your hands, your feet, your legs, anything."

Dunlap was then asked whether his mother could have indeed holed the putt, to which he replied:

"Probably not. I don't know if I'd trust her, I'm not going to lie."

All the latest news on Nick Dunlap:

Dunlap's narrow one-stroke victory over Christiaan Bezuidenhout saw him become the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991.

He also became the second youngest amateur to ever win on the PGA Tour and the youngest in 93 years.

On top of all that, Dunlap became the youngest ever champion of The American Express, and his 29-under par total was a 72-hole tournament record.

Dunlap also holds a record alongside 15-time major champion Tiger Woods.

Woods and Dunlap are the only two players in history to have won the US Amateur, US Junior Amateur and a PGA Tour title.

Although Dunlap was not able to collect the hefty first-prize cheque for winning The American Express, he did earn some huge OWGR points.

Dunlap now vaults from outside of the top 4,000 in the world rankings up to 68th.

He will now make a big decision as to whether he wants to turn professional or remain an amateur for the rest of the season.
