Five PGA Tour players withdraw from RBC Canadian Open where Rory McIlroy returns to action

Five PGA Tour players have so far withdrawn from this week's RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto where Rory McIlroy returns to action. 

The famous Canadian Open has been staged since 1904.

It's the third oldest continuously running tournament on the PGA Tour after The Open and U.S. Open. 

Two-time PGA Tour winner K.H. Lee has been joined by Brandon Matthews and one-time winners Brian Campbell, Ben Martin and Michael Kim in pulling out of the latest tournament. 

Campbell and Kim have reportedly withdrawn through injuries, while it's unconfirmed about the other three players. 

Anders Albertson, Justin Matthews and David Ford have been named as replacements in the field. 

McIlroy, 36, is scheduled to speak with the media for the first time since shunning reporters all four tournament days at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow last month. 

GolfMagic has listed five hot topics that will likely be discussed during his press conference on Wednesday. 

McIlroy starts the week as a warm tournament favourite to win a third RBC Canadian Open title this Sunday.

Should he go on to win the event, it will mark a fourth victory of the 2025 season and a landmark 30th in his PGA Tour career. 

Despite winning one more PGA Tour title than Scottie Scheffler so far this year, the World No.2 has been replaced by the World No.1 at the top of the FedEx Cup standings. 

Defending FedEx Cup champion Scheffler moved in front of McIlroy following a successful title defence at the Memorial Tournament on Sunday.

That was a tournament McIlroy rejected for the first time since 2017. 

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre is back to defend his title at the RBC Canadian Open. 

MacIntyre also WD from the Memorial Tournament 12 months ago before going on to win his first PGA Tour title. 

The Scot hit back at critics over that decision. 

MacIntyre memorably won this event last year with his father Dougie on the bag at Hamilton Golf  & Country Club.

The 2025 RBC Canadian Open is being staged on the North Course at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Ontario. 

There will be a prize purse of $9.8m.
