Jacob Bridgeman has set up a golden chance to win his first PGA Tour title at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera on Sunday.

Bridgeman, 26, fired a stunning Saturday 64 to move to 19-under par and open up a six-shot lead on grand slam champion Rory McIlroy with 18 holes to play at Tiger Woods' coveted tournament in Los Angeles.

Bridgeman, who earned his PGA Tour card in 2023, has been in the form of his life to start the 2026 season.

The American entered the latest $20m Signature Event off the back of four consecutive top-20 finishes.

But so far through 54 holes at famed Riviera, the adidas athlete has taken his game to new heights.

Bridgeman made nine birdies and two bogeys during a sizzling Saturday 64.

The highlight of his round came when sending a fairway wood to inches for a tap-in eagle at the par-5 11th - a feat that became all the more greater for him when he realised a certain Tiger Woods called it in the booth.

On learning from CBS' Amanda Balionis after his round that Woods called some of his shots during the broadcast and that he will get to play alongside McIlroy in the final round, Bridgeman replied: "I'm glad I didn't know all that was happening around me while I was out there playing, but yeah little me would have said all those things, that would be my dream.

"On this stage at Riviera and on the PGA Tour is just the dream for me."

The man from South Carolina now takes a commanding six-shot lead over Northern Ireland's McIlroy (69) into Sunday's final round.

Bridgeman will not only have one eye on winning a first PGA Tour title on Sunday, but also beating the tournament scoring record of 20-under par (set by Lanny Wadkins, 1985).

It would be the perfect time to achieve it too given Riviera is hosting its 100th anniversary of the event this week.

McIlroy won't make it easy for him though.

The five-time major champion is not only looking to win a landmark 30th PGA Tour title, but also a first ever title at Riviera.

McIlroy knows he can do it too, especially since he overcame a seven-shot deficit in the final round to win the BMW PGA at Wentworth in 2014, and he came from six shots back to win the Tour Championship at East Lake in 2022.

As for the possibility of winning his first title at Riviera, McIlroy said: "I've given myself a chance, not as big of a chance as I would like, but I'm going to be in the final pair and will be able to see what Jacob is doing.

"But yeah, I would love to win here and also win at Memorial and get that handshake from Jack [Nicklaus]. It's the same thing with Tiger here. I won at Bay Hill but Arnold [Palmer] wasn't around. I'd love to do that one day, I think that's one of the cool things about our game. I'm going to play my hardest tomorrow and see what happens."

Aldrich Potgieter is back in solo third on 12-under par after matching Bridgeman's 65.

Aaron Rai (66) moved to fourth on 11-under par, one shot ahead of Xander Schauffele (70) and Kurt Kitayama (68).

Marco Penge, who held a share of the 36-hole lead with Bridgeman, could not keep pace on day three and the big-hitting Englishman fell back into the chasing pack on 9-under par after a lacklustre 74.

Elsewhere, Scottie Scheffler improved his position with a 66 to progress to 5-under par and sit just outside the top 20.

Scheffler has racked up 18 consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour — the best run since Billy Casper recorded 17 between 1964 and 1965.

The four-time major champion will need to go some to extend that particular streak though as he's three shots off the top 10 entering Sunday.

Tournament host Woods dropped a big hint over a Masters return during a live appearance with CBS.

The winner of the Genesis Invitational will take home $4 million.
