PGA Tour winner slams the look of the leaderboard at Mexico Open

One-time PGA Tour winner Mark Lye has labelled the look of the leaderboard at the Mexico Open as a "new low" for the circuit.

PGA Tour rookies Jake Knapp and Sami Valimaki battled out the Mexico Open at Vidanta with Knapp pulling clear on the back nine to win by two.

Knapp scooped the first prize of $1.45m and secured his playing privileges on the PGA Tour for the next couple of seasons on top of book his place in all the remaining Signature Events on the 2024 season.

Tournament-favourite Tony Finau was the highest-ranked player in the field at World No.24 but the defending champion finished in T13.

But for some critics, the leaderboard lacked star appeal.

Lye, who won 1983 Bank of Boston Classic on the PGA Tour, considers it was one of the worst-looking leaderboards on the circuit for some time.

During the final-round coverage of the Mexico Open, Lye tweeted:

"I don’t know how the PGA Tour can defend this leaderboard in Mexico. Very good players, but who the hell are they??? This is a new low…."

Lye was hired as an analyst on SiriusXM in 2015.

He was then fired from his position in 2022 following negative comments about women's sports.
